Angelina Jolie makes shocking decision to avoid breast cancer

Angelina Jolie said she had received a double mastectomy - a surgery to remove mammary glands. According to the actress, chances for her to suffer from breast cancer were quite high - 87 percent, CNN said.

Jolie made the shocking announcement Wednesday in an interview with The New York Times. According to her, she is a carrier of BRCA1 gene, which greatly increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer to appear. As soon as the actress found out what she was dealing with, she decided to put the cart before the horse to reduce the risk to the utmost, she said.

According to media reports, the actress's breasts will be reconstructed with the help of breast implants.

It is worthy of note that the actress's mother died of breast cancer at age 56 in 2007.

On December 10, 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, its thirty articles enshrining basic and fundamental rights guaranteeing dignity of the human person and equality for all, regardless of race, color, creed or gender. A pipe dream?
