The fifth traditional festival of Medieval swordplay took place in Nizhny Novgorod. The knight tournament was organized by Dagen club of historical reconstruction with the support of the administration of the Prioksky district.
More than 30 athletes and members of the historical reconstruction club conducted battles in the following nominations: sword-buckler, bastard sword, shield-sword and great sword. The "knights" from Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow, Cheboksary, Perm, Kazan, Kirov, Kondopoga and Kostroma took part in the festival.
The tournament was held according to the rules of medieval battles of the knights of Eastern Europe of XIV-XV centuries. However, there was a female participant of the tournament - Maria Smetanina from Nizhny Novgorod.
Muscovite Oleg Syrkin won the professional tournament. Vitaly Gryzlov became the winner of the "bastard sword" tournament. Alexander Nadezhdin, from Kostroma, the bronze medal champion of the world, became the best in "buckler-sword."
No one received any serious injuries in the tournaments in spite of the fact that the battles were rather fierce. The arms and the armor of the warriors corresponded to their historical analogues completely, The Rossiiskaya Gazeta wrote.
