Two border guards of the Vladikavkaz detachment's Karmadon checkpoint, junior sergeant Yevgeny Pronin and private Yevgeny Shchekalyov, being on duty at a mountainous sector of the border, missed Friday night the communication session with their commanders. Both happened to stand in the way of a descending mudflow, said the press service of the Russian Federal Frontier Service (FPS) North Caucasian regional department. After the descent of the mudflow, the detail did not reply to radio and light calling signals. The border guards had two submachine guns with ammunition, a radio station and a signaling pistol on them.
Besides, the fate of film director Sergei Bodrov Sr.'s shooting group, which worked in North Ossetian mountains and turned out to be in the mudflow descent area too, is still unclear.
The North Ossetian Interior Ministry reports that Bodrov's group was accompanied by two road police officers, who haven't replied since Friday as well.
