London, not Nigeria, to host Miss World contest

Nigeria was to have hosted a regular Miss World -- 2002 beauty contest; however, this contest will now be held in London. This decision was made by contest organizers in the late evening of November 23 because of mass Nigerian riots that were staged by radical Moslems opposing the global beauty contest.

More than 110 people were killed and over 500 wounded as a result of clashes in Abudja, the capital of Nigeria.

Meanwhile Nigeria's Islamic organizations claim that this immoral beauty contest insults the feelings of Moslem believers.

The decision to hold the contest's super-finals in London December 7 was made after carefully considering all aspects of the problem, Nigerian interests and those of contest participants, reads a statement by contest organizers.

The Nigerian super-finals were to have taken place that same day.
