Several commandos sustain wounds or shell-shocked when releasing hostages from Theatre Centre

During the operation to release hostages from the Theatre Centre, the terrorists put up stout resistance having wounded or shell-shocked several Russian commandos.

This information has been disclosed by officers of the Alfa and B special teams of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) who were directly involved in the operation.

In their words, many bandits who were holding hostages "were conscious and so we were to make it quick for we had no time at all, and so we were a success." The spokesmen for the secret service also reported that the troops entered the building on two fronts.

When inside, the commandos came under automatic fire, the Alfa spokesman said.

"We opened fire leaving one terrorist killed in the corridor. We also encountered fire resistance when entering the room where Barayev and his accomplices gave an interview two days prior to the events. The terrorists were suppressed by return fire and grenades." The commandos entered the hall where hostages were being held from behind the stage and through the main entrance, the spokesman for the B Department reported.

According to him, the bandits located on the stage started shooting at the commandos, but were killed in the return fire.

Near the hall entrance, the troops killed a woman-terrorist who tried to shoot and throw a grenade at the commandos. "She had a pistol in one hand, and a grenade without the pin in the other. She was eliminated before she unfolded her hand," the B Department's spokesman said.

The journalists' interlocutors stressed that several commandos had been "wounded or shell-shocked" in the skirmish with "well-trained" gangsters.

When speaking about the special force's actions during the operation, the FSB spokesmen stated that "all teams accomplished the mission at a high professional level, but they were very lucky as well."
