Jimmy Carter to resume book tour after upset stomach stop in Cleveland

41801.jpegFormer President Jimmy Carter planned to resume a trip promoting his new book on Wednesday after an upset stomach developed on a flight to Cleveland landed him in a hospital overnight.

Carter was scheduled to appear at two events in Washington, including one at the Smithsonian Institution, said Kathy Daneman, publicity manager at Farrar, Straus & Giroux, publisher of Carter's "White House Diary."

Book signings in a Cleveland suburb and Durham, N.C., were canceled Tuesday when the 85-year-old Carter fell ill, according to The Associated Press.

Carter, who will turn 86 on Friday, fell ill aboard a flight from Atlanta and was rushed by ambulance and Secret Service escort to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was to remain overnight. By midafternoon, President Obama had called the 39th president and reported that Carter "sounded great," said White House spokesman Bill Burton, Washington Post reports.
