Outstanding Russian film director Grigory Chukhrai died of a heart attack at the age of 80. Grigory Chukhrai shot not so many films but each of them was an event in Russian cinematography. His "Ballad of a Soldier" is still a standard for film-makers of the whole world. It was the first Soviet film which won the main prize of the Cannes Festival (in 1968). The majority of Chukhrai's films were connected with events of the Second World War and described the fates of the people distorted by the war. Grigory Chukhrai himself took part in the war and was wounded.
