Police searching for illegal music in Germany

German police raided the homes of a far-right party’s member and seven other people, trying to ding CDs with illegal right-wing extremist music.

The National Democratic Party member, whose identity was not revealed, is accused of producing and selling illegal music containing right-wing lyrics, Frankfurt prosecutors said.

Agents of the Federal Crime Office, Germany's equivalent of the FBI, and Hesse state police searched his home in the eastern state of Thuringia and also raided the homes of several other suspects in the state of Lower Saxony.

Although the production and sale of right-wing music is against the law in Germany, many copies come into the country from abroad.

Nadja Niesen, a prosecutor in Frankfurt, said that especially the Scandinavian countries were known as a "safe sales region" for far-right music, and so her office would send a "request for legal assistance asking for support."
