Brown bear found floating on ice in St.Petersburg's Neva River

The police of St.Petersburg received a phone call from one of the city residents, who reported a brown bear floating on a drifting ice-floe in the Neva River. When rescuers arrived to the site of the incident, they saw a little bear on a big block of ice that was floating in the center of the river. As it turned out later, the animal was a pet of one of the city residents, who let the bear play by the river for a while.

"When rescuers caught the bear and took it ashore, a man came up to them and told them that it was actually his bear. The man fixed a lead to the bear's collar and walked away. The bear was walking in the center of the city without a muzzle on. In addition, the animal's owner was a little drunk. The rescuers decided to follow the man and the animal for a while," a spokesman for the St.Petersburg police department said.

The story had a happy ending: the bear and its drunk owner returned home.
