The Drama Theatre in Malaya Bronnaya street opens the 57th season on August 1st. This season can be called Russian, chief director of the theatre Andrei Zhitinkin told RIA Novosti. Unlike the previous season, when plays by Camus and Durrenmatt were on, the theatre is launching two major projects - "Anna Karenina" and "Rasputin".
"I like to stage plays, which have never been on the Moscow stage or have been forgotten for a long time. I have been long dreaming of 'Anna Karenina,'" said Zhitinkin. Stars Oleg Vavolov and Ivan Shabaltas act in the play. Actress Yevgenia Kryukova, who starred in the series "Gangster Petersburg" and "Petersburg's Secrets" and new Sergei Solovyov's film "About Love", will play the part of Anna Karenina. Anna will be Kryukova's first role in the theatre in Malaya Bronnaya street. She has joined its company in the new season.
"Rasputin" is a theatrical fantasy, based on Alexei Tolstoi and Edvard Radzinsky's works, taking into account recent historic discoveries. Alexander Domogarov, the favourite of the audience, will play the leading part. Zhitinkin is to stage both plays.
The theatre is also to show the premier "The Unexpected Guest" by Agatha Christie, staged by Viktor Lakirev. On August 1st, the 57th season will be opened with the play "Meteor", with Lev Durov starring.
Large-scale tour over eight American cities is scheduled for March 2003. The company will stage a performance about Nizhnisky, with Domogarov playing the leading part.
