Federer defeats British teenager

Roger Federer captured the Thailand Open for the second straight year Sunday, defeating British teenager Andy Murray 6-3, 7-5. Federer, ranked No. 1, has won 24 consecutive ATP finals, including seven this season.

Murray said playing for a title against Federer was more memorable than making the third round at Wimbledon. The top-seeded Federer sees promise in Murray's game.

Federer raced to a 3-0 lead after nine minutes, thanks to two double-faults by Murray that gave the Swiss star a break in the second game.

Murray pulled to 4-2 with an ace and forced deuce several times in the next game in long rallies. In the second set, Murray dropped the opening game and fell behind 3-1. But he chased down the balls to make it 3-3 as Federer missed an easy forehand. Federer finally took charge at the net and broke for a 6-5 lead, CNN Sports reports.

Federer fought back from a break point to set up the championship point after Murray netted a backhand. The match ended with Murray repeating the mistake.
