Lyudmila Putin opens exposition of Russian artist in Indian National Museum

The Russian president's wife Lyudmila Putin visited the National Museum of India Wednesday to open an exposition of Nicholas Roerich's paintings. The exposition called "Himalayan Saga" comprises about 100 Roerich's canvasses from different museums and private collections, including from the Roerichs' mansion in Nahar.

After visiting the exposition, a concert of Indian folk musicians, dancers and singers was held in honour of Lyudmila Putin.

Indian Culture Minister Vinod Khanna presented Lyudmila Putin with copies of two statues discovered during archaeological excavations. One of them dates back to the third millennium of our era and symbolises the Goddess Mata Ji (the Holy Mother).

The National Museum of India is the leading historical and arts museum of the country boasting one of the richest collections of antiques, archaeological valuables of ancient civilisations, and cultural exhibits reflecting the country's ethnic variety. The construction of the Museum was launched by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in May 1995. And it was opened in 1960.
