International film festival "Stalker" in Moscow

The eighth international film festival Stalker is opening in the Russian capital on Tuesday.

In line with tradition, this cinema forum is held on December 10 because the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted on that day.

There are two competition programmes - a competition of Russian films, and an international panorama of films on the rights of man - within the bounds of the Stalker festival.

The first programme will open with the show of the film Fools' House of well-known Russian film director Andron Konchalovsky and Willow-Herb documentary telling of the abandoned home of deceased film director Andrei Tarkovsky (directed by Nina Shorina). A total of 49 films will participate in the competition.

The international panorama of films on human rights includes 42 films representing cinematograph of more than 10 countries, among them France, Russia, Finland, the USA, the Netherlands, Belgium and Great Britain.

Two exhibitions - Posters of Films on Human Rights and photo exhibition "Andrei Tarkovsky. Stalker. Shooting." will also be held within the framework of the festival.
