In a match against Japanese politicians the football team of the State Duma took revenge for the defeat of the national team of Russia at the world championship in the game with Japan. The Russians thrashed the Japanese Parliamentarians 11-0.
Even the "secret weapon" - woman deputy Midori Matsushima who took the field 15 minutes before the end of the game - did not help the Japanese squad. As a matter of fact, she managed to cause certain confusion in the ranks of the Russian MPs many of whom clearly paid heightened attention to her. And the youngest player of the State Duma team, Konstantin Zaitsev, even asked to replace him with a view to avoiding competition with the woman player on the pitch.
The team's captain Vladimir Plotnikov was the best striker of the State Duma squad, having scored four goals. State Duma deputy Sergei Shishkarev opened the second "ten" in the score. Deputies Sergei Proshchin and Alexander Fomin and chairman of the budget and taxes committee of the State Duma Alexander Zhukov scored two goals each.
The choice of the city of Helsinki is not incidental as the capital of Finland had hosted US-Soviet negotiations on the limitation of nuclear stockpiles in 1969
