Representative of Ebert Foundation: No Specific Results to Be Expected from Festival of the Future

While speaking yesterday in St. Petersburg, Dr. Peter Schultze who represents the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Russia said, 'The Festival of the Future is just a chance to have a closer look at Russia'. He believes, the principal objective of the festival is establishing permanent dialogue and that no specific results should be expected from it outside continuing cooperation between young people from various countries.

The Friedrich Ebert Foundation has been present in Russia for a decade and, as Dr. Schultze notes, has had a chance to see a number of positive political and social developments. Among these is the fact that 'Russia progressively becomes Europe's key partner'. Dr. Schultze further said, 'What is important at this time, is not as much for serious reforms in Russia to be continued as for them to become more profound. For a developed society to allow its members to form their own ideas of the future is very important, which should become the principal result of the festival'.

The first St. Petersburg's Festival of the Future entitled European Union, Russia, Youth, and Politics is held with the active participation of Viktor Cherkesov, the Plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in the Northwestern Federal District; Moscow's Foundation for Effective Politics, St. Petersburg's Fund for Economic and Political Research, the Netherlands's Alfred Moser Foundation, Germany's Friedrisch Ebert Foundation, Great Britain's Westminster Foundation, and St. Petersburg's Young Politicians' Club that brings together the young leaders and members of the youth political movements and parties of Russia.
