Tim Don wins men's triathlon

England's Tim Don won a Commonwealth Games qualifying triathlon Saturday, finishing ahead of Australia's Greg Bennett and Athens Olympic silver medalist Bevan Docherty of New Zealand.

Don is a two-time World Cup winner this year and silver medalist in the world duathlon championships two weeks ago in Newcastle, Australia.

Bennett, who finished fourth in the Olympic triathlon last year, qualified for Australia's team for next March's Commonwealth Games with his second-place finish in the bayside suburb of St. Kilda, the same course that will be used next year during the Games.

Don's time was 1 hour, 48 minutes and 17 seconds, 10 seconds ahead of Bennett. Docherty finished in 1:48.31. Australian Annabel Luxford won the women's event Saturday in 2:02.54 and also qualified for Australia's Commonwealth Games team. Luxford led after the 1,500-meter swim leg and established a big lead at the end of the 40-kilometer cycle ride.

England's Julie Dibens was second in 2:03.39 and Andrea Hewitt of New Zealand was third in 2:04.46, AP reports.
