Novgorod art goes on show in Strasbourg

Veliky Novgorod's Art-Sloboda gallery will present the best works by local artists at the traditional Christmas market in Strasbourg.

Art-Sloboda will show Europeans carving and wood engravings, samples of needlework from the Krestetskaya Strochka factory, cobalt blue dishes from the Vozrozhdeniye china factory and various souvenirs.

Pride of pace at the Russian exposition will go to straw panels created by Chudovo craftsman, Yuri Ivanov.

The traditional Christmas market in Strasbourg will run for exactly a month, from November 30th-December 30th. The Novgorod gallery Art-Sloboda will be taking part in this prestigious international market for the first time. The invitation to participate in the event came from the mayor of Strasbourg. The two cities are connected by many years of cultural ties.

The department of foreign economic ties at the Novgorod mayor's office has reported that the exposition, "Russia yesterday, today, tomorrow," at the French will feature the works of craftsmen from 18 Russian regions.
