Yesterday, June 17, the Study Books of the Third Millennium: Creation, Publishing, Distribution international academic conference opened in St. Petersburg. According to the administration of St. Petersburg, the event must help assessing the possibilities and future prospects as concerns managing the publishing industry not only in the traditional sense but also in relation to coordinating the work of the teams authoring such books and the new study requirements.
The conference is divided into two sections, namely, Study Books for Universities and Study Books for General Education Schools. This division is not incidental, reflecting there being two parts to a single process and continuity as concerns educating professionals of the 21st century according to the state educational standards. The participants of the conference include over 700 Russian and foreign publishing professionals.
Beginning 1998, in St. Petersburg alone, 7 such conferences have been held. The outcome, including recommendations to the authors and editors of study books, stimulates a better quality of publishing.
The conference is organised by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and supported by the Committee for Science and Higher Education of the administration of the city and St. Petersburg's Publishing Association for Higher Education existing on the basis of the St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University.
