The Olma-Press publishing house (Moscow) published 300,000 copies of a new two-volume novel by Alexander Bushkov "D'Artagnan is a Cardinal's Guardsman".
This is an unusual novel, because the Russian author comes out against famous Alexander Dumas, depicting Cardinal Richelieu not as a villain and a perfidious intrigant, but as an outstanding statesman and an actual ruler of France. According to Bushkov, he wants not to rewrite the classic, but to restore historic justice.
Attempts to rehabilitate the cardinal were often made in French films, but not in literature, said Alexander Sirota, the Olma-Press press attache. The Russian author made the first literary attempt to do it in his novel "D'Artagnan is the Cardinal's Guardsman".
