Moscow demands security guarantees from Tbilisi at qualifying match of 2004 European Football Cup

Moscow demands security guarantees from Tbilisi at the 2004 qualifying match of the 2004 European Football Cup. The game was scheduled for October 12th and will take place in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.

As a RIA Novosti correspondent was told on Wednesday by official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko, "it is important that the Georgian side should give reliable security guarantees to the sportsmen, the official delegation and also to the Russian fans." Alexander Yakovenko reminded the RIA Novosti correspondent that on September 10th the Russian Foreign Ministry made a statement in view of the deterioration of the general criminal situation in Georgia. The citizens of the Russian Federation, who were at that time in Georgia or were going there, were recommended to take proper personal security measures.

"Since that time, unfortunately, the situation has not improved," pointed out the official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
