Russia to vie at first world judo Masters competition in Bucharest

Leading Russian judo wrestlers are to take part in the world's first Masters tournament with the prize fund worth $500,000, to be launched this Friday, November 29, in Bucharest. Only the winners of the last world championship, the recent Grand Prix tournament in Moscow and the world rating have been invited.

Special interest is drawn to the super-heavy category, in which Russia will be represented by two-time world champion and Moscow Grand-Prix-holder Alexander Mikhailin. Two other Moscow Grand Prix-winners Islam Matsiyev (up to 66 kilos) and world champion Vitaly Makarov (up to 73 kilos) will come to Bucharest.
