Finnish defenseman Jussi Timonen was purchased by the Dallas Stars from the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday for an conditional selection in the 2009 National Hockey League draft.
Timonen, in his second season in the NHL after two seasons each with TPS Turku and SaiPa Lappeenranta, had seven assists in 14 games with the Flyers' minor-league affiliate Philadelphia Phantoms this season. He had four assists and six penalty minutes in 14 games for the Flyers last season.
"With the Phantoms having two defensemen coming back from injury, we will have a logjam on defense," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "This will give Jussi an opportunity to play."
