Wayne Davis wins 110 meters hurdles at World Youth Championships

Wayne Davis of the United States made the 110 meters hurdles at the World Youth Championships in 13.18 seconds - the fastest time ever in the category.

William Wynne finished second in 13.44, and Denis Semenov of Kazakhstan was third in 13.82.

Konstadinos Douvalidis of Greece had set the previous leading time at 13.22 in 2004.

Dexter Lee won the 100 in 10.51. The 16-year-old Jamaican, who ran a personal best of 10.33 last month, edged Nickel Ashmeade by 0.03 seconds. Kenneth Gilstrap of the United States finished third in 10.65.

Asha Philip of Britain beat Rosangela Santos of Brazil in a photo finish in the girls' 100, both finishing in 11.46. Ashlee Nelson of Britain was third in 11.58.

Cuban athletes dominated the girls' triple jump, with Dailenis Alcantara winning with a jump of 16.63 meters and Yosleidis Rivalta second with 13.32. Maja Bratkic of Slovenia was third with a leap of 12.96.

Tatyana Kalmykova won the girls' 5,000 walk, finishing in 20:28.05 and breaking the previous leading time of 21:05.41 set by Irina Stankina in 1994.

Also, Shane Brathwaite of Barbados won the boys' octathlon with 6,261 points, and Tuomas Laaksonen of Finland won the boy's javelin with a throw of 79.71 meters.
