IOC threatens to close WADA for doping lies

It is the reputation of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), rather than of the International Olympic Committee that needs to be improved, Alex Giladi of Israel said at the 129th meeting of the IOC. According to him, one needs to find a way to establish the organization that would meet all requirements.

"I respect Mr. Richard Pound (ex-chairman of WADA), I've known him for 30 years, but the matter is not about the reputation of the International Olympic Committee that needs to be restored. The question is about the reputation of WADA. I sincerely hope that we will be able to find a way to reconsider the problems in this situation and see how we can create an organization that would meet all requirements," Giladi said.

Another member of the IOC, Larry Probst III of the USA, expressed a similar point of view. According to him, the struggle against doping needs to be reformed. and the establishment of the new organization would be the best solution.

Noteworthy, during the 129th meeting of the IOC, the head of the international organization, Thomas Bach, stated that the global anti-doping system would be revised after the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

"Recent developments have shown that we need a full review of the WADA anti-doping system," Bach said. "The IOC is calling for a more robust and efficient anti-doping system. This requires clear responsibilities, more transparency, more independence and better worldwide harmonisation," he added.
