Serbia promotes its relations with Russia onto a new level

The Vice Prime Minister of Serbia and the head of the Yugoslav governmental committee for Kosovo and Metohija, Nebojsa Covic, said that Serbia was promoting its relations with Russia onto a new level.

Nebojsa Covic spoke about it at a news conference in the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Belgrade to sum up the trip to Kosovo and Metohija by a delegation of public organisations of Moscow and the Stavropol Territory (a region in the south of the European part of Russia).

He also expressed gratitude to the Russian Foreign Ministry and to the representatives of the Russian Federation at the United Nations for the support of the position of Yugoslavia in international organisations.

In his turn, director of the CIS Institute Konstantin Zatulin, who is in Belgrade as a member of the Russian delegation, pointed out, commenting on the situation in Kosovo, that it is necessary to prevent the exodus of Serbs from that province. He said that Moscow and the Stavropol Territory were now considering the problem of rendering concrete material aid to the Serbian population, now in great distress in Kosovo. In particular, it is envisaged to send to the Serbian enclaves in Kosovo mobile electric stations and other equipment to help people live through the coming winter. Such deliveries can start already this September.
