Tom Cruise is not great for great stars

Film legend Lauren Bacall, a great woman and sophisticated actress, called one of the most well-ppaid Holliwood stars Tom Cruise “vulgar” and indecent in the interview to Time magazine.

Bacall, 81, told Time magazine Cruise's exploitation of his relationship with young actress Katie Holmes to hype his film "War of the Worlds" was "shocking."

Bacall was alluding to Cruise's displays of emotion and public courting of Katie Holmes in the weeks leading up to the release of his new film War of the Worlds. Last fall, Bacall made similar remarks about Cruise's ex-wife Nicole Kidman, her co-star in Birth, when an interviewer described Kidman as "a legend." "She can't be a legend at whatever age she is . . .You have to be older," Bacall said.

"It's inappropriate and vulgar and absolutely unacceptable to use your private life to sell anything commercially," she said, "but I think it's kind of a sickness."

The widow of film great Humphrey Bogart minced no words with her assessment of the three-time Oscar nominee: "The word 'great' stands for something. "When you talk about a great actor, you're not talking about Tom Cruise.”
