A total of 252 envelopes with white powder have been registered in Russia this week but none of them contained anthrax agents. Chief sanitary doctor of Russia Gennady Onishchenko said that microbiological examination was being conducted in each such case. On Friday, a man was detained in Novosibirsk who sent envelopes with flour to various organisations. Speaking about the situation in the USA, Onishchenko pointed out that the main aim of terrorists was to arouse mass panic.
