Court fines minister in Britain

Immigration Minister of Britain was fined by a court for talking by mobile phone when driving.

Liam Byrne admitted the offense to a hearing at Sutton Coldfield Magistrates' Court in central England.

The 37-year-old legislator, also a former policing minister, told the court in a letter he answered his cell phone to take an important call about a deportation case.

Using a cell phone while driving became an offense in Britain in 2003 following concerns about road safety.

He was fined 100 pounds (US$208; EUR144) and ordered to pay a total of 50 pounds (US$104; EUR72) in costs.
