Russia wants particular role in World energy community

Russia wants to have a particular role in the world energy community, as it is one of the world's major suppliers of energy carriers, said Russian Energy Minister Igor Yusufov, speaking at a Detroit meeting of G8 energy ministers. According to him, Russia has at its disposal 35% of the world gas, 12% of oil and 16% of coal reserves. Russia accounts for 12% of the world production of primary energy carriers, and there still is potential to increase capacity, he stressed. The Russian Minister's adviser, Alexei Turbin, reported that the Detroit bilateral meetings clearly testified there was interest in increasing the scale of cooperation with Russia. According to him, the discussions, as well as the final declaration of the G8 ministerial summit, focused on the fact that Russia in any political conditions had always fulfilled its commitments concerning energy carrier deliveries, in particular, to West European countries; there are grounds to believe that Russia will remain a loyal energy carrier supplier in case of a crisis and after taking a relevant decision, even to other states, for example, the US.
