Russia Attaches Great Significance To Cooperation Between Its Private-owned Businesses And Un Organizations

Russia attaches great significance to getting its private-owned businesses engaged in cooperation with organizations within the United Nations, which is in line with the UN Secretary General's Global Agreement-related initiative. This opinion was voiced at the 9-th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, currently underway in Vienna, the Russian foreign ministry's information and press department told RIA Novosti. The session is discussing ways of enhancing efficiency of this international organization, streamlining its financial situation, as well as results of having been transformed into the world forum for industrial development. A three-year programme of Russia-UNIDO cooperation, which has outlined basic guidelines and arrangements of UNIDO's assistance to Russia, is nearing completion. A new cooperation programme to target 2002-2005 is being elaborated. Russia is seeking to focus cooperation on such priority areas as investment in the scientific-technological sector of its economy, innovations business development, environmentally clean industries, and assistance to small and medium-sized businesses.
