Iran Is Against Foreign Military Presence In Afghanistan

The parliament of Iran has sent a message to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan with a call to use all his powers for rendering assistance to the Afghan people with a view to protecting its rights to self-determination, territorial integrity and non-interference in home affairs, the press service of the Mejlis (parliament) of Iran reported on Tuesday. In the opinion of chairman of the special parliamentary commission on Afghanistan Hadi Hamenei, the UN can establish control over the organisation of peaceful life in the Islamic State of Afghanistan (ISA) without presence of foreign troops. The Iranian parliamentarians hold the view that it will be impossible to ensure setting up of a broad-based government with the participation of all ethnic groups in Afghanistan in conditions of massive military pressure of the West's troops contingents on the situation in the country.
