Border guards from Russia and USA hold joint exercises in Pacific

The Vorovsky patrol boat vessel of the North-Eastern regional border guard department of the Russian Federal Security Service has returned from Alaska where Russian and US border guards held joint exercises.

As the boat's captain, Leonid Fedurin, told journalists on Wednesday, the patrol boat and the US Jarvis boat of the 17th coast guard district practiced joint orientation, communication maintenance at various frequencies "during patrols in the convention area."

In coming days the patrol boat will sail towards the Kodiak Island (Alaska) where the command of the North-Eastern border guard department and of the 17th coast guard district will work out a plan of joint actions to protect convention areas and carry out patrolling along the line delimiting the water area of the two countries.

The treaty on interaction for the protection of water biological resources in the convention area was signed in 1996. The Russian border guards and the personnel of the US 17th coast guard district have held over 30 joint operations, exercises and patrol missions in the convention area.

Cooperation between the border guard departments of both countries makes it possible to achieve effective interaction between the patrol boats and vessels employed to protect marine biological resources, control the customs declaration of fishing items and documentation authorizing sea product catches in the exclusive economic areas of the two counties.
