Berlusconi says blame for U.S. troops can't be ruled out in shooting death of Italian in Iraq

Premier Silvio Berlusconi said Wednesday that he disagreed with some of the U.S. military's conclusions into the shooting death by U.S. soldiers of an Italian agent in Baghdad, contending that the checkpoint wasn't properly marked and that blame for the troops can't be ruled out.

"The absence of deliberateness doesn't indeed rule out blame," Berlusconi told lawmakers in the Chamber of Deputies, at odds with the U.S. conclusion that the troops deserved no blame in the March 4 death of intelligence agent Nicola Calipari.
