The participants in the meeting of the executive committee of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA), held in Bangkok from December 3-5, made a new attempt to set up an effective regional news line. It was noted at the meeting that at the present time only half of the members of the organisation regularly send their news reports to the OANA news service which has its own site in the Internet. The line now carries about 100 reports a day on average. The Russian information agencies ITAR-TASS and RIA Novosti figure among the most active suppliers of information for the regional line. At the Bangkok meeting three mew members joined the OANA. They are the Kazakh agency HABAR, Syrian SANA and Saudi SPA. So, the number of the participants in the organisation now stands at 37. An exchange of opinion on the prospects of commercial spread of the regional news tape and of the use of the advantages of the Internet global network also took place during the meeting. In the opinion of the participants in the forum, the next, extraordinary meeting of the OANA executive committee will be held in Alma Ata on April 24, on the eve of the Eurasian Media-Forum slated to be held there from April 25-27.
