Mira Markovic may be delegated to parliament of Serbia and Montenegro only as Slobodan Milosevic's spouse

Dusan Bajatovic, deputy chairman of the Serbian Socialist Party said in his interview with Belgrade newspaper "Blitz" that Mira Markovic might be included into the list of deputies of the parliament of Serbia and Montenegro from the Serbian Socialist Party only as the spouse of former Yugoslavian President Slobodan Milosevic and not as a functionary of the "Yugoslavian Left" party.

He added that "we do not know yet the procedure of delegating deputies to the parliament of the future state union, but we might consider the proposal of Slobodan Milosevic to include Mira Markovic into the list only as his spouse. Her inclusion into the list as an official of the Party of the Yugoslavian Left is out of the question." According to Bajatovic, Milosevic's wish to have his spouse elected into the new parliament "for greater protection through deputy's immunity" will be considered at meetings of the executive and general committees of the Serbian Socialist Party.

Bajatovic stated that "from this point of view Milosevic's request is justified because of all misfortunes of the family of the party's chairman." At the same time he noted that it was not known at the moment whether the Serbian Socialist Party would be entitled to delegate people who are not party members to the new parliament.
