Russia not to raise energy rates for Georgia

EES Rossii (United Energy Systems of Russia), a giant energy corporation, does not intend to raise rates for electric energy supplied to Georgia, Chairman on the board of the company Anatoly Chubais said in Tbilisi.

Chubais arrived in Tbilisi on Wednesday to hold negotiations with Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze on issues of co-operation in the sphere of electric energy.

"EES Rossii is not aimed at raising power rates for Georgia, where the rates are still higher than in Russia," the head of the company said.

The company's task is to develop the Georgian energy sector in collaboration with the country's leaders, the official underlined. EES Rossii has rich experience in this sphere, he added.

"Our key task is to ensure stability of Georgia's energy supply in general," Chubais said.
