Delegates of the three-day Rhodes public forum dealing with the dialogue of civilisations denounced globalisation in the interests of some countries as something destructive.
Globalisation in the interests of a narrow group of rich and industrial countries is fraught with destructive consequences in the future, reads the concluding summit declaration, which was passed here today.
Those taking part in the forum emphasised the fact that a unipolar world order based on power politics challenged the genuine meaning of human dignity and equality, also insulting the freedom and sovereignty of nations.
The delegates advocated international cultural-and-spiritual dialogue. The forum decided to establish a permanent coordinating committee of the world public forum.
Igor Kasatonov, former commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, talked to RIA-NOVOSTI, noting the topical nature of the Rhodes forum, which involved representatives of political, economic and religious elites from more than 30 countries of the world.
A global conflict no longer looms on the horizon, Kasatonov pointed out. However, people are now concerned about other problems, such as the threat of religious and ethnic extremism, globalisation and economic upheavals, Kasatonov said in conclusion.
It has long been understood that the West has been trying to subject Russian borders to total control. We have not seen such activity even during the Cold War
