Russian Legislation Fully Equipped To Fight Terrorism

Deputy head of the Russian presidential administration Dmitri Kozak announced at a Moscow press conference on Tuesday that Russian there was a complete set of measures in current Russian legislation to combat terrorism. When answering a question in relation to Vladimir Putin's calls for the Interior Ministry to take tougher action in the fight against extremism, Kozak said that the matter in hand concerned the effectiveness of the law enforcement agencies' work to put an end to criminal activity. In Kozak's opinion, the law enforcement agencies have all the necessary powers and no amendments are needed to current legislation. When commenting upon the future of the presidential pardons' commission, Kozak said that the commission was continuing its work with its previous members and the recent difficult situation had been settled. At the same time, he said that a pardoning institution should not be a key feature of punitive policy. It was in this connection that the president had given instructions for the state's policy to be reviewed along with the corresponding legal procedures.
