Vladimir Putin Urged That Concept Of Terrorism Be Defined In International Law - 6 November, 2001

Russian President Vladimir Putin urged that a concept of terrorism be defined in international law. The head of the Russian state made such an appeal on Tuesday at a news-conference in the wake of the Russian-Indian talks in the Kremlin. The Russian President said that it was necessary to strengthen the role of the U.N.O. in combating international terrorism. "Together we should define the concept of terrorism in international law", Putin said. He also noted that the stances of Russia and India on the issue of struggle against international terrorism coincided. Touching upon the problem of Kashmir Putin hailed the political dialogue between India and Pakistan and expressed the hope that this dialogue "would yield positive results".

On December 10, 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, its thirty articles enshrining basic and fundamental rights guaranteeing dignity of the human person and equality for all, regardless of race, color, creed or gender. A pipe dream?
