Iranian mass media have rejected information on US-British troops' seizure of Basra. "The USA and Great Britain are currently controlling the city's western part alone," the Iranian radio has reported referring to military observers on the south-western Iranian-Iraqi border. Severe street fights went on till midnight in southern Basra. "Creation of any checkpoints is out of the question," the Iranian radio stressed.
Iraqi troops have divided Basra into several parts, each of them having a defence line, which is rather difficult to break.
The occupation forces' air bombings and tanks managed to break only the western defence line, the Iranian mass media stated.
Military observers also reported that the US-British troops were currently preparing another assault on Basra.
