Group For Russia's Joining Wto To Hold Meeting In Geneva

An informal meeting of an ad hoc group for Russia's joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO) will be held in Geneva early next week, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade told RIA Novosti Friday. The meeting scheduled for Monday, December 10, will discuss Russia's proposals for gaining access to commodities and services markets, as well as issues of government support for the agribiz sector and the latest changes in Russia's foreign-trade legislation. The group's official meeting is scheduled for the end of January, 2002 in Geneva. The group comprises about 50 countries, which are the most significant trade partners of Russia. China, which has recently joined the WTO, is getting engaged in group activities.

On December 10, 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, its thirty articles enshrining basic and fundamental rights guaranteeing dignity of the human person and equality for all, regardless of race, color, creed or gender. A pipe dream?
