East Timor elects new president

In East Timor began to vote for a new president, an election its people hope will end bitter political rivalries threatening the future of Asia's youngest nation.

With a run-off predicted, some people fear the desperately poor country, pushed to the brink of civil war just one year ago, could be entering several more months of political instability.

Election official Miguel Caldeira said "the voting has started."
