Conference "Islam Against Terrorism" Opens In Baku

Islam is incompatible with terrorism - such is the theme of a conference which opened in Baku Thursday. It was held on the initiative of the head of the Spiritual Administration of Moslems of the Caucasus Sheikh Allakhshukyur Pasha-zade. Taking part in the conference are representatives of Muslim religious organizations, prominent ulema, Islam scholars, other believers. Dominating the conference is a range of problems concerning cooperation of religious organizations of the Caucasus in safeguarding peace and regional security. In an address to US President George W.Bush the conferees said that it is obviously necessary to wage a consistent struggle, including special operations, destroying terrorists. However, even the fairest and most humane goals must not be achieved by means of victims among and calamities of civilians since it turns the anti-terrorist struggle into war against a nation and its religion, they stressed. The appeal was made to the USA and its allies to have clear distinction between criminals and millions of well-motivated Islam believers: in Afghanistan, as well as in the rest of the world.
