Barack Obama becomes non-smoker, Michelle proud

43317.jpegFirst Lady Michelle Obama said President Obama finally kicked his smoking habit and has not had a puff for about a year.

She revealed that during a lunch interview with ten print reporters who cover the East Wing. The meeting was organized to mark the first anniversary Wednesday of her "Let's Move" anti-childhood obesity campaign. After interviews Wednesday morning on NBC's "Today Show" and "Live with Regis and Kelly," Mrs. Obama travels to Atlanta to deliver a "Let's Move" anniversary speech.

Mrs. Obama's session with her press corps touched on a variety of topics. Asked if Obama stopped smoking, she said, "Yes he has, yes he has. Very proud," she added. "Totally," according to Politics Daily.

It has been "almost a year" since the president had a cigarette, his wife told reporters at a White House luncheon to mark the first anniversary of her "Let's Move" childhood health initiative.

"It's been a while and I'm very proud of him," she was quoted as saying by The Washington Post. "I haven't poked and prodded. When somebody is doing the right thing, you don't mess with them."

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in December that Obama appeared to be making progress in his struggle to give up cigarettes and was chewing nicotine gum as a replacement, Reuters informs.
