Minnesota, man accused of launching a variant of the Blaster computer worm

A 19-year-old Hopkins, Minnesota man accused of launching a variant of the Blaster computer, has requested a change of plea hearing.

The Hopkins, Minnesota, man accused of launching a variant of the Blaster computer worm in 2003 is expected to enter a plea before a Seattle, Washington, judge.

The man boasted both to his friends and on his web site that he launched the variant worm that caused an estimated 5 to 10 million dollars in damages. Computer security experts traced the worm s origin to the man s IP address.

Just prior to his arrest, his friends commented that he said the feds were getting close to him and he was afraid. Presently, he under house arrest and is being electronically monitored.

The man originally pleaded not guilty, but in a surprise move, he requested a change-of-plea hearing which will be heard by U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman.
