Estonia's strong investment flow dipped in 2002

Foreign investment in Estonia for all of 2002 stood at approximately USD 271 million, down from approximately USD 671 million in the preceding year. Nonetheless, in terms of a number of indicators, Estonia remains one of the most successful of the countries of Eastern and Central Europe. As reported today by the newspaper, Business News, the amount of foreign investment per person in Estonia for 2002 was USD 3,100, second in the region behind the Czech Republic. As to the proportion of direct foreign investment to gross national product, at 65.9% that figure is the best in the region.

This year Estonia is expecting direct foreign investments totaling approximately USD 500 million. Actual direct foreign investments in Estonia in the first quarter of this year were reported at approximately USD 328 million.
