Moscow asks IAEA analyze nuclear safety risks in Syria

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano confirmed that he had received a request from the Russian Federation for the analysis of the risks associated with nuclear safety in Syria in the event a military action is launched against the country. The agency is currently considering the request.

"I have to inform the Board of Governors that the Russian Federation has sent the letter asking the IAEA to conduct the analysis of risks in case of a possible military strike against a miniature reactor, a source of neutrons and other facilities in Syria," said Amano, speaking at the opening session of the IAEA Board of Governors on Monday.
