The use of force in combat against terrorism is inevitable under certain conditions, said spokesman for the Belarussian Foreign Ministry Pavel Latushko while commenting on the developments in Afghanistan. "It is in this way that we appraise the current anti-terrorist action of the US-led military coalition", he said. According to him, the Republic of Belarus has always been a consistent advocate of uncompromising struggle against the evil of international terrorism. The Foreign Ministry spokesman mentioned that Belarus regards itself as a link of the world coalition fighting against international terrorism. Latushko specified that the type of Belarus's participation in the world community's combat against international terrorism is defined by the UN Security Council Resolution #1373. He emphasized that Belarus totally backs the approaches worded in this resolution and aimed at depriving world terrorism of financial and organizational support. He added that his country realized these approaches in the activities of its state authorities.
The choice of the city of Helsinki is not incidental as the capital of Finland had hosted US-Soviet negotiations on the limitation of nuclear stockpiles in 1969
