France's prime minister condemns Amman attacks

France's prime minister condemned Wednesday's suicide attacks on three hotels in Jordan's capital, saying the incidents underscored the need for further international cooperation to fight terrorism.

"I want to express, to the victims' families and to all Jordanians, my most sincere condolences and my profound sympathy," Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin said in a letter to his Jordanian counterpart, Adnan Badran.

"France, which condemns these odious acts in the firmest terms, stands alongside you during these tragic and painful circumstances."

Villepin said the attacks were the latest reminder of the need for increased international cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Suicide bombers simultaneously attacked three hotels frequented by foreigners in Jordan's capital late Wednesday, killing more than 20 people and injuring more than 120. One police official said they appeared to be al-Qaida attacks, AP reports.
