Jordanian prime-minister relies on Russia in repelling a strike against Iraq

On Saturday Jordanian prime-minister Abu Ragheb Ali stated in his interview to the Saudi Er Riad newspaper that he was relying on the positive role of Russia in repelling a military strike on Iraq. He was hopeful that Russia would intensify its efforts and would completely prevent the threat of a military attack. The Jordanian prime-minister stressed the role which Russia might play as a permanent member of the UN Security council and a super-power appreciably affecting the international policy to restore a dialogue between the United Nations and Iraq with the objective to settle the problem peacefully on the basis of decisions of the international community and provisions of international law.

The prime-minister indicated that Jordan would continue consultations and coordination of efforts with Russia. He emphasized that this met the interests of both states, and of stability and security in the Middle East. Abu Ragheb highly assessed Moscow's efforts aimed at achieving a political settlement of the Iraqi problem.
